Santa Teresa, Costa Rica, is a paradise known for its amazing surfing spots. But what if surfing isn’t your thing? Don’t worry; there are plenty of exciting activities to enjoy in this charming town on the Nicoya Peninsula.
Beach Yoga in Santa Teresa
If you’re not hitting the waves, you might be interested in yoga. Santa Teresa offers several yoga retreat centers and drop-in classes. I loved the sunrise and sunset beach yoga sessions provided by Selina. It’s a peaceful way to start and end your day.
Try Aerial Yoga
For a unique twist, try aerial yoga, also known as anti-gravity yoga. This blend of yoga, pilates, and dance takes place while you’re suspended in a cloth hammock. It’s perfect for those who want to try inversions without the pressure of a full headstand. Selina offers classes for this too.
Zip Line and Canopy Tours
No trip to Costa Rica is complete without a zip line adventure. Santa Teresa features its own zip line options, including the special surfboard zip line at Canopy Mal Pais. It’s a thrilling experience you won’t want to miss.
Learn Aerial Silks
Ever dreamed of joining the circus? Selina offers beginner classes in aerial silks, where you’ll learn basic acrobatic skills using long fabric pieces to support you in the air. It’s a fun and exciting way to try something new.
Stand Up Paddleboarding (SUP)
Stand up paddleboarding (SUP) is gaining popularity, and Santa Teresa is a great place to try it. Rent a paddleboard, take a lesson, or go on a tour. You can paddle in the ocean or enjoy a calm river experience. Blue Surf Sanctuary offers various SUP tours and lessons, including wave riding.
Chase Waterfalls
Costa Rica is famous for its stunning waterfalls, and Santa Teresa is no exception. The Montezuma waterfalls are a must-see. Rent an ATV, pack a lunch, and embark on an adventurous journey to these beautiful falls.
Snorkeling Day Trip to Isla Tortuga
One of the highlights of my visit to Santa Teresa was a day trip to Isla Tortuga for snorkeling. The trip includes transportation from Santa Teresa to Montezuma, followed by a speedboat ride to the island. You’ll snorkel at two spots and enjoy beach time with a delicious lunch. I booked my tour with Cocozuma Tours.
Beach Strolling
Take a leisurely stroll along the miles of shoreline from Playa Santa Teresa to Mal Pais. Walking on the beach, feeling the sand between your toes, and listening to the surf is a relaxing and rejuvenating activity.
Horseback Riding
Experience the beauty of Santa Teresa on horseback. I highly recommend a sunset ride with Ollie’s Adventures. Watching the sunset while riding along the shore is an unforgettable experience.
Explore Cabo Blanco Nature Reserve
For a fantastic day trip, visit the Cabo Blanco Nature Reserve. This was Costa Rica’s first national park and remains a gem of the Nicoya Peninsula. The park is open Wednesday-Sunday, and for just $10, you can explore two hiking trails. Keep an eye out for wildlife like coatis, monkeys, anteaters, and possibly even wild cats.
Conclusion
Santa Teresa offers much more than just surfing. Whether you’re into yoga, adventure activities, or simply relaxing on the beach, this beautiful town has something for everyone. So, if you’re planning a trip to Costa Rica, don’t miss out on the many wonderful experiences Santa Teresa has to offer.
